My Site Is Not Showing on Google — 7 Reasons and How to Fix Each
You launched your site, searched for your business name on Google, and got nothing. This is the most common question we get after delivery — and the answer is usually not "the site is bad." It is one small technical reason stopping Google from seeing it at all. Here are the seven causes, in the order we actually check them: easiest first. 1. The site is new and Google has not visited yet Google does not index a site the moment it goes live. It has to discover it, crawl its pages, then decide to show them. A brand-new site can take days to weeks. How to check: search site:yoursite.com on Google. If results appear, the site is indexed and your problem is ranking, not visibility. If nothing appears, Google does not know your site yet. The fix: register the site in Google Search Console, submit sitemap.xml, then use URL Inspection and Request Indexing for every important page. 2. Your pages are telling Google not to index them Sometimes a development-stage tag survives into production: meta name="robots" content="noindex" That tag tells Google explicitly: do not show this page. It is by far the most common reason an entire site disappears after launch. How to check: open the page, press Ctrl+U to view source, and search for noindex. 3. robots.txt is blocking the crawler The robots.txt file lives at yoursite.com/robots.txt and controls what Google may visit. One wrong line such as Disallow: / closes the whole site to search engines. An important distinction: robots.txt blocks crawling, while the noindex tag blocks appearing. They are different problems with different fixes. 4. No sitemap, or one that was never submitted A sitemap.xml is a list of all your pages that tells Google: here is everything I have. Without it Google relies on following links on its own, which is slower and less complete — especially for deep pages nothing links to from the homepage. The fix: generate the sitemap, put it at the site root, and submit it in Search Console. 5. Page titles and descriptions are empty or duplicated This is the most underestimated point. Many sites use the same title on every page, or titles like "Home", "About Us", "Our Services". The problem is that nobody searches for "About Us". People search for "website design", "online store pricing", "web design company". If those words are not in your page title, you are competing for words nobody types. The practical rule: a title of 50–60 characters containing the phrase you want to rank for, and a description of 140–160 characters explaining what the page delivers. 6. There is far too little content A page with three lines and an image will not outrank a page that genuinely answers the searcher's question. Google compares your page to competing pages; if yours is clearly thinner, it will not rank well no matter how clean it is technically. This does not mean padding the text. It means actually covering the question: what you offer, for whom, what it costs, how long it takes, and what happens after purchase. 7. The site is slow or does not work well on mobile Google evaluates the mobile version first. If your site needs pinch-zooming to read, shows horizontal scrollbars, or takes more than three seconds to load, those are negative signals — and they increase the share of visitors who leave before reading anything. Check in the right order Start at the top and do not skip: is the site indexed at all (point 1)? If no, check 2, 3 and 4. If yes but it does not rank, the problem is in 5, 6 and 7. The common mistake is starting at point 6 — writing lots of content while a noindex tag is still blocking everything. When to ask for help If you have done all seven and the site is still missing after a month, the problem is usually deeper: a manual action, a link structure issue, or a domain with a bad history before you bought it.
